Protective Tariff Definition for Kids

Watch on SchoolTube

A tariff is a tax placed on imports from another country. A protective tariff is a tax on those imports with the intention of protecting your own country’s industries as opposed to making revenue.

The idea is to make the imports from other countries more expensive than the items that your own country makes. This is to encourage customers to by domestic items instead of imported items.
